Lightning Safety
Don’t just rely on the township lightning detection system to determine if you should get off the field or not. If you see lightning or hear thunder, go to a safe place (inside a building with plumbing or electricity or a hard-topped automobile) and start a 30 minute countdown. Each time you see or hear lightning or thunder, start the count again. After 30 minutes goes by without either, then it is safe to return.
Please be aware, especially where there is no indoor shelter, to stay or be available with vehicles for players to get into if there is the threat of storm. The roofed open shelters are not a safe option.
