Marlboro Soccer Association ("MSA") statement with regard to U.S. Soccer's birth-year registration mandates

I know that many of you are anxious, confused and curious over the changes being discussed for implementation next year with regard to birth-year registration.  I have attached information below from both US Youth Soccer and US Club Soccer regarding this matter.

The NJ Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (ODP) will begin programming for its Young Olympians program (birth year 2004) and Club NJYS (birth year 2005) on Saturday, November 21st.   Sessions are hosted regionally (south, shore, central and north) to facilitate participation throughout the state.

Youth Coach Requirements

The town has stated that they will be fully enforcing its policy on the requirements for being a volunteer youth sports coach in Marlboro.  We are trying to let the volunteers know the requirements so they can get out ahead of this.

In order to ensure the safety of our children, the town has several requirements for volunteering and coaching in any Recreation program.  These include a background check, A Rutgers Safety Certification, and an On-line concussion course.

The meeting of all three of these requirements will be enforced.  These are township requirements that will be enforced for coaching and volunteering within all youth programs.

 1)      You can check your current background check status at:  Click on APPROVED LISTS on the right hand side and then click on Marlboro Township.  If you are not on this list or your background check expires during the season you MUST get a background check processed immediately.  This can be done at the Rec office M-F 8a-4:30p.  Just show up with your driver’s license and someone can help you.

 2)      The concussion certification is a simple on-line class that you can take at your convenience.  When you complete it you simply print the certificate and submit to recreation department to keep on file.  This information is extremely beneficial in dealing with how to handle any situation where a child bumps his head while under your care.  The course can be found HERE!

 3)      The Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. Clinic (Sports Awareness for Educating Today's Youth ™) is a three-hour program that meets the "Minimum Standards for Volunteer Coaches Safety Orientation and Training Skills Programs" (N.J.A.C. 5:52) and provides partial civil immunity protection to volunteer coaches under the "Little League Law" (2A:62A-6 et. seq.).  These courses are offered at various locations throughout the year, and you can register and attend at your convenience.  The certification is good for life, so it is a onetime only deal.   Once again, this will be a requirement for all volunteer and coaching positions in the recreation programs moving forward.  Course schedules can be found at

For coaches that do not already have a Rutgers Safety certificate, a clinic will be held at the Marlboro Recreation center onWednesday October 28th,2015.
